CENTREVILLE, VA—On a day that the offense struggled to produce runs, the Senator pitching staff was able to provide a magnificent performance and lead the Senators to a 2-1 victory over the Fairfax Nationals at West Field High School. Billy Tinsley, Will Naylor, Brandon McDowell, and Donald Brown stifled the Fairfax bats by only allowing only three hits and one run as a unit. The Senators were only able to manage seven hits, but they scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to get the win. The win moves the Senators to 3-1 in the second half and 19-4 overall.
The Nationals started the scoring in the first inning when Ryan Mitchell sent a ball over the centerfield wall to make the score 1-0. That was the only highlight for the Nationals offense. They managed only two more hits the rest of the game as the Senator pitching shut them down.
The Senators offense struggled for six innings until Andrew Fritz tied the game when he doubled off the wall to drive in Matt Lesyk from second base.
With the game tied in the eighth inning, the Senators mounted another rally. AJ Lamonda doubled to get into scoring position. Pinch hitter Donald Brown then doubled to drive in Lamonda and give the Senators the lead for good at 2-1.
Brown mad his first pitching appearance of the season in the ninth and retired the Nationals to register his first save of the year. Brandon McDowell got the win for the Senators. The Senators return to action tomorrow night when the take on the Nationals at Herndon High School. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
