June 9, 2006. Vienna, VA. The Vienna Senators dismantled the Fairfax Nationals 6-1 on a soggy Waters Field in Vienna. The Senators struck out 17 batters and belted two home runs to put the game out of reach early during a foggy rain-delayed game that lasted 3 hours and 17 minutes. Senators starter David Kellerberg (Florida Southern) was extremely sharp while picking up his first victory, as he allowed only 5 hits in 6 innings of work while allowing only 1 walk and striking out 11. Mason Griffin (Grayson CC) collected the save when he relieved Kellerberg in the 7th. Griffin promptly struck out 6 in 3 innings of work allowing only 1 hit and 1 unearned run.
The Senator offense managed only 9 hits but the attack was well timed and executed with precision, speed, and power. The Senator offense stole 6 bases and had 4 extra base hits including home runs by Xavier Qualls (Southeastern) and Sam Cunningham (Emory). Kyle Patrick (Florida Southern) contributed with a 2 for 3 effort including 2 doubles and 1 RBI.
The victory improved the Senators record to 6-2 on the year and 3-2 in the CGCL. The Senators continue their 2006 campaign at Waters Field tomorrow at 7:30pm vs. the DC Grays.
