Behind the bat of Tim Guidry (Tulane University) and the pitching of Nate Newman (Tulane University), Travis Spencer (Grayson County College) and Mason Griffin (Grayson), the Vienna Senators claimed their 10th win in 11 games with a 5-2 win over the Fairfax Nationals at Paul VI High School last night. The win moved Vienna to 17-4 overall and 11-3 in the Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League.

Guidry had three hits – including a two-run home run to give the
Senators a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning – to pace a Vienna
offensive attack that accounted for 11 hits. Xavier Qualls
(Southeastern Louisiana University) added two hits, while Kyle
Patrick (Florida Southern University) and Travis Dunson (Lamar
University) each added RBI singles in the fifth.

Newman allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out six over 4.2
innings before giving way to Spencer, who struck out six while
allowing one hit over 3.1 scoreless innings of relief to pick up the
victory. Mason Griffin threw a scoreless ninth to pick up his fourth
save of the season. Griffin has not allowed an earned run in 23.3
innings of work this summer. The three pitchers combined to strike
out 13 Nationals batters as Vienna improved to 3-1 against Fairfax
this season.
