Senator Legacy continues as Tritz and Smith pitch well in Victory against the Fairfax Heat

June 1, 2006. Vienna, VA. The Vienna Senators defeated the Fairfax Heat 11-4 in a game was delayed 1 hour by rain. The Senator offense was led by Sam Cunningham (Emory) and Greg Wolfe (UNO). Wolfe hit a 1-1 offering over the left center field wall for a grand slam in the third inning. Cunningham had a bases loaded base clearing double in the fourth inning and had 3 hits on the day.

Strong pitching performances by the younger brothers of former Senator were the highlights on the mound. Garret Smith pitched 2 complete allowing no runs and striking out 2, while Zach Tritz pitched the final two innings allowing no runs while the heat managed only 2 hits on his watch. Garrett Smith is the brother of former Senator Grant Smith (VS00,01) and Zach Tritz is the brother of Noah Tritz (VS05).

The Fairfax Heat were a Industrial League team comprised of current college players and ex professional and college stars. Former Senator Dan Gulino (VS04) pitched 2 innings for the Heat while Catcher Jed English, a former standout at Virginia Tech looked as solid as ever.

The Senators will continue the 2006 campaign tonight with a 7:00 pm game at Waters Field in Vienna, their opponent will be the always tough Fed Lock Blackshirt Rangers.
