Braves 2, Senators 1
Box Score
July 24, 2006. Herndon, VA. The Herndon Braves plated their only runs of the game in the ninth inning to spoil an otherwise stellar outing by Senators starter Adam Olbrychowski (Pepperdine University) and earn their second consecutive victory over Vienna, 2-1, tonight at Herndon High School.
Olbrychowski struck out seven and allowed just four hits over 8.1 innings, but took the loss after Herndon's Matt Gaski (University of Florida) doubled in the tying and winning runs in the ninth. Mason Griffin (Grayson County College) relieved and retired the next two batters to keep the deficit at one run. Then, in the bottom of the ninth, the Senators' Sam Cunningham (Emory University) was stranded at third after leading off the inning with a single.
Vienna's run came in the second when left fielder Joe Newman (Oklahoma University) singled in center fielder Will Rice (Tulane University). Right fielder Xavier Qualls (Southeastern Louisiana University) had three hits and Cunningham added two to pace the Senators at the plate.
The Senators will now have to wait at least one more game to claim the league's
regular season championship. Vienna will look to clinch when they face the
Fairfax Nationals at Waters Field on Wednesday night.
