July 15, 2006. Vienna, VA. The Senators jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the third inning and rode the pitching of Mason Griffin (Grayson County College), who was making his first start of the season, en route to a 5-2 victory over
the Herndon Braves tonight at Waters Field. The win was Vienna's
second straight and game them a three-game lead over the Braves in
the overall league standings.

Griffin, who made his first 16 appearances of the season out of the
bullpen, improved to 5-0 on the season after scattering five hits and
striking out eight while allowing two runs over seven innings.
Garrett Smith (Frederick Community College) threw a scoreless eighth
and Scott Denault (University of San Diego) struck out two while
tossing a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the season.

The Senators were paced at the plate by left fielder Joe Newman
(Oklahoma University) and right fielder Xavier Qualls (Southeastern
Louisiana University), who each had two hits and drove in a run.
