Ten former or current Vienna Senators were selected in the 2005 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft held this week..  Catcher Brandon Snyder, who was the 13th overall selection of the Baltimore Orioles, led the players that were selected.  Snyder is a player on the 2005 Senators and recently finished his senior season for Westfield High School in Centreville, VA.  He is seen as a catcher in the big leagues, but may start out as a third baseman so that his offensive potential is not stunted.

The other former or current Senators that were drafted were Mike Billek, Cameron Blair, Adam Daniels, Chad Wagler, Byron Binda, Raleigh Evans, Will Rhymes, Chad Pendarvis, and Chris Stanton.

*Billek is a right-handed pitcher who played this spring for the University of Central Florida.  He was drafted by the Cubs in the third round.

Blair, a second baseman who played for the Senators in 2002 and 2003, played this spring for Texas Tech University. He is a 2005 finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, given annually to college baseball's best player. He was selected in the sixth round by the Pirates.

Daniels, a left-handed pitcher who played for the Senators in 2003, played this spring for Oklahoma State University.  He was drafted by the Cardinals in the 15th round.

Wagler ,a right handed pitcher who played for the Senators in 2003, played this spring for Kent State University.  He was drafted by the Giants in the 18th round.

Binda, a right handed pitcher who played for the Senators in 2003, was a member of Coastal Carolina University’s team this spring.  He was drafted by the Rockies in the 19th round of the draft.

Evans, a left handed pitcher, is a member of the 2005 Senator squad and played this spring for Lake City Community College.  He was drafted in the 21st round by the White Sox.

Rhymes, a second baseman who played for the Senators in 2002 and 2003, was a member of the College of William and Mary baseball team this spring.  He was drafted by the Tigers in the 27th round.

Pendarvis was a member of the 2002 Senators and played for Southeastern Louisiana University this spring.  He was drafted by the Devil Rays in the 29th round.

*Stanton was a member of Virginia Tech's baseball team this spring.  He was drafted in the 43rd round by the Giants.

These players add to a rich tradition of excellence that the Senators have established over the last decade.  Since 1994, the Senators have had over 100 players drafted or signed by Major League Baseball organizations. Cla Meredith was the most recent Senator to break into the Major Leagues when he joined the World Champion Boston Red Sox as a relief pitcher.

*Only played on Senator Tournament Teams
